RECEIVER SETUP

Set up in minutes.

Add a UDP target for your existing receiver software such as Ais Dispatcher or AIS-catcher.

  1. Add a station and copy its UDP destination.
  2. Send your receiver’s NMEA feed over UDP.
  3. Once the feed qualifies, connect to the TCP stream.

QUICK ANSWERS

Before you connect.

Can I keep my existing feeds, and what contribution is required for access?

Open AIS does not restrict sharing your receiver’s feed with other projects and services. Add Open AIS as another UDP destination in your receiver software. Access requires an ongoing contribution of quality AIS data from at least one qualifying station on your account.

What if my receiver goes offline?

Short interruptions do not automatically disqualify your account. Accounts with a longer record of quality contributions receive more tolerance for gaps in transmission. Read the access terms.

What types of commercial use are allowed?

Commercial applications and analytics may use vessel data without attribution, provided their primary purpose is not supplying raw AIS data or vessel tracking. Operating or supplying a raw AIS data, vessel-position, or vessel-tracking service requires both prior written permission from Open AIS and explicit opt-in from every data provider whose contributions are used. See permitted uses and restrictions.
